M1 - Supporting the Chilled Water Pipes |
Today we're having a look at the chilled water pipes that run around M1 to enable the cooling of the
facility. As you can see from these first two photos, each pipe has been installed overhead in order
to maximise the use of space in the data centre.
Each pipe you can see here is 5.97 metres long and weighs 2.2 tonnes. As you can imagine, this
means that installing them over head in the data centre is not a simple job. Every stretch of piping
requires a steel foundational framework with rings attached to hold up the pipe which has a diameter
of 450mm.
Just look how much steel is used to keep these pipes up there!
In these photos you can see the frame work and the rings that are put in place to support the pipes. In
M1 there is approximately 3km of chilled water pipe (yes, 3km) that snakes its way around the data centre with
around 1500 of these rings to keep it in place.
There is still heaps going on at M1 so we will do our best to get on site and get as many photos as we can to keep you up to date. Check back tomorrow for the latest!
