C1 - The First Racks are In
Monday, 21 May 2012 16:05

Things are moving really quickly down at C1. The photo above shows the first pod of racks installed. It’s been taken from inside the pod, where you can see from the colouring that it is the cold aisle. The racks have all been supplied by Server Racks Australia, a Queanbeyan based company from just outside the ACT. Each cabinet is 42RU and has been specially made 20cm wider than the rest of the racks which will be installed at C1.

It really shows you the fast pace of progress when you consider the photo below is of the same data hall just last Thursday when we were laying power cables under the raised floors.

If you're not a regular reader of the blog you may not know much about C1. It is a purpose built data centre previously occupied by the Australian Taxation Office. This means it is one of the most highly secure facilities in the country.

We have stripped the old data halls bare in order to completely fit them out with new infrastructure, right down to the cabling so that it meets our high standards. This is the first of three data halls to go live in stage 1. The other two are just behind this one – over the next few weeks we will bringing you much more from C1 as we undertake this transformation.
