We've just connected the high voltage power supply to M1 in Melbourne! This is a major moment for us so as you can imagine we're over the moon that it has gone off without a hitch. In the photo above you can see Nilsens staff testing the main HV switchboards after their energisation.
This first stage supply is 11,000 volts at 7.5 MVA. That means that we'll have just over 680 amps per phase.
While you can see three cables in the above photo, this is one inbound circuit. The HV cables enter the HV switch room via an entry pit from the street. This photo shows the cables entering the main HV incoming switch. The red parts you can see inside the door are the cable ends.
Now that the switch room is live, it needs large and obvious signage like like in these bottom two photos. Check back with us tomorrow for more info on the HV power.
