C1 - Temporary Plant Arrives |

This week we have temporary plant arriving at C1 in Canberra. The temporary generator, UPS, and ATS will be installed in the MEP so that we maintain our redundant systems while all the current equipment is being recommissioned.
As part of the process of retrofitting C1 to be a NEXTDC next generation data centre we are replacing all of the controls on the generators and chillers with modern units. Once installed, we will be recommissioning every component of the plant.
The large white unit you can see in these photos is the generator. While we hope we won't have to use it, this will supply power to the data centre should we experience an outage. This temporary solution means the data centre loses no redundancy and resiliency.
The item under the blue tarp is the UPS and just to the right of it is the ATS. The ATS is an automatic transfer switch. It monitors the mains supply and initiates a generator start should the mains go out of tolerance. Once the generator starts it manages the transfer to generator power and then once the generator is no longer required it manages the switch back to main power.
