Attached to NEXTDC HQ in sunny Brisbane is the NEXTDC Service Management Centre or "The SMC". The SMC is home of the national NXTOPS team who look after all queries and service requests coming in to NEXTDC. The HQ SMC will act as the national hub for teams positioned at data centres around Australia.

As you can see from these photos there are a number of flat screen televisions mounted to the wall. There are 8 in total and each is used for a different reason. Two of them run through the active tickets, one shows the CCTV from the data centres and the other three monitor different aspects of the critical infrastructure at the data centres.

The guys in the SMC monitor everything about the data centre from the power consumption, to the humidity and temperature in the data halls. This second photo, which was taken a bit more recently, shows some of the new monitoring software in action.

You might be able to make out the screen in the top right of this second photo has the news on. Similar to the data centre security areas, this is so that we are aware if something happens near the data centre which may require urgent action.
