With the imminent launch of NEXTDC’s Brisbane data centre, “B1”, NEXTDC Limited (ASX:
NXT) (the Company or NEXTDC) is pleased to announce that the facility is expected to be
the most widely and diversely connected colocation facility in Queensland.
NEXTDC expects fibre carriers AAPT, Nextgen Networks, Optus/UeComm, PIPE Networks,
Primus Telecom, Telstra and Vocus all to have diverse fibre hauled into B1 at or soon after
opening, with almost all having committed or advising that they are looking to establish
points-of-presence (PoPs) within B1.
These PoPs will enable the fibre carriers to offer B1 customers greater value-added services
such as internet transit, interstate capacity, national MPLS services and L2 wholesale
transmission.
In addition to these fibre carriers, Brisbane City Council, ENERGEX and CITEC (Queensland
Government’s ICT service provider) each have their own dedicated fibre optic cables
terminating within the facility, creating a unique connectivity feature for B1.
In announcing the network provider line up, founder and Managing Director Bevan Slattery
said, “NEXTDC’s mission is to become the most recognised, connected and trusted data
centre brand in Australia and New Zealand.”
“Having access to as many diverse fibre providers at B1 is important for us and our
customers”, he said.
In another Queensland first, B1 will host both PIPE Networks and WAIX peering internet
exchanges. Internet exchanges enable network providers, content delivery networks and
cloud providers to exchange data locally, thereby reducing costs and increasing performance
and resilience.
Finally, leading national network service providers Internode and Platform Networks also
intend on establishing mega PoPs at B1 and offering their entire suite of value added
network services.
“To have the support and commitment of Australia’s major network providers so early in our
development cycle is encouraging and demonstrates that our model of independent cloud
centres is one the industry is keen to embrace,” Mr Slattery said.
