The Directors of NEXTDC Limited (ASX:NXT) ("the Company" or "NEXTDC") are pleased to advise that the Company is now expanding its initial fitout program in its Melbourne (M1) facility to include the fitout of an additional data hall.
Additionally, NEXTDC is pleased to announce that it is proceeding with the upgrade of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure to provide 2,000 watts/m² of IT load across the initial 3,000 m² of data centre space representing total IT load of 6 MW. This upgrade represents a massive 200% increase in customer IT capacity and capability.
As previously announced, NEXTDC is currently constructing a 17,500 m² purpose-built data centre facility in Port Melbourne. The M1 facility is designed to provide 6,000 m² high density technical space (6 x 1,000 m² data hall) with total IT load capability of 12 MW (or 2 KW/m²).
NEXTDC initially planned to fitout 2 MW capacity (or 2,000 m² technical space at 1 KW/m²), of which 50% is pre-committed to Harbour MSP (70% owned by Japanese telecommunications giant NTT Communications). However, based upon market interest and anticipated demand as the launch of M1 nears, the Board has deemed it prudent to fast track this expansion and upgrade program to ensure it is able to meet anticipated market demand for high density data centre services in Melbourne.
