It takes an army to build the infrastructure platform which is enabling Australia’s digital economy to thrive and a powerful ecosystem to deliver the critical IT services that organisations depend on. Over the last six weeks our ecosystem of customers, partners, suppliers and staff have worked tirelessly to pull together the biggest corporate event in the calendar.
On Sunday October 6, we will hit the road in Melbourne and ride more than 200km all in the name of raising money for kids that need it the most. The Smith Family is one of the incredible charity partners we support as part of our Live to Give program, a key component of NEXTDC’s broader and ongoing commitment to corporate and social responsibility.
It’s now just a couple of days until the Smith Family’s annual Around the Bay event. What started as a small intimate event, our second Around the Bay campaign quickly exploded after an overwhelming response from our partners and suppliers. Just six short weeks ago we made the decision that we would go around again. Within two short weeks we had 16 incredible sponsors and we are rapidly approaching a team that is 50 riders strong.
We are so proud of the commitment and dedication of our entire team – consisting of NEXTDC staff, key suppliers, partners and customers. All the training hours, early starts and the thousands of collective hours on the bike have led us to this point. On Sunday our inspirational team will push their bodies to the limit as they ride 200kms around Port Phillip Bay in one day.
Around the Bay is not just for devoted cyclists it is a great annual opportunity for us to bring together the people and organisations that mean the most to our business, and unite us beyond our strategic, professional partnerships. It puts us all out of our comfort zones and lets us open our collective arms to demonstrate just how much we care about giving the next generation of Australians every opportunity to shine.
Not only does it bring us closer to the partners, customers and suppliers that enable us to prosper, it also allows us to do something amazing that will ultimately help improve the lives of so many Australian kids and their families who are doing it tough.
Let there be no doubt about it, by taking on the challenge of spending 10 hours in the saddle, most of those riding will be entering territory that they have rarely, if ever, been before. Most will be needing to dig deep just to complete the ride but as usual, our ecosystem will come together to get the job done.
Coaxing every ounce of energy from their legs is going to take grit and determination as well as teamwork; the same sort of co-operation that helps us design, build and operate data centres that have become globally recognised for their innovation excellence. Of course, none of this would be possible without the corporate sponsorship and ongoing support from our phenomenal community. This year we have once again been overwhelmed by the support that has flooded in.
We always aim to push ourselves beyond our limits, but for a cause this important, we want to continue to do things that will test everything we have. This year we set ourselves the aggressive goal of raising another $25,000 for these kids and to help break the cycle of disadvantage and our 2019 riding kit carries the logos of 16 incredible sponsorship partners, both new and returning from last year’s event.
Thanks to Multiplex, Kapitol Group, Over the Wire, Deloitte, Penske, Greenbox, SRA Solutions, RXP Group, Stow Australia, Data#3, ABB, Turner & Townsend, Vertiv, Herbert Smith Freehills, CRS and Securitas who have all generously chipped in this year. Thank you. We couldn’t do this without you.
In addition, there has been an amazing number of individuals who have made contributions to the cause through providing financial encouragement for fund raising efforts of individual riders in our group or just by donating through our team page.
It goes without saying that the power and influence of our ecosystem is strong, alive and very much kicking. It was just one short month ago we started our official corporate campaign, with an aggressive goal of raising $25k. Through the power of social and our incredible community, today we sit at over $50k as we set our sights on the new goal of raising $60k for kids who need it the most. This money truly changes lives and literally every cent counts.
So, as you wake up on Sunday morning, take a moment to ponder this band of hearty souls who will be testing the boundaries of their bodies for something they care about deeply. It’s not too late to add to the tally so check out our Around The Bay fund-raising page for options and you too can contribute to creating opportunities for Australian kids to embrace education and break out of the poverty cycle.
We feel passionately about playing our part in creating a better world for the generations to come, and it’s our firm belief that companies can and should do more than just make money, they need to also give back to the community and use their success to improve society. That’s exactly what we intend to do at NEXTDC.
To our inspiring team, you’ve worked hard, and we couldn’t be prouder. To our support team who have given up their Sunday to be there to support our riders, we could not do this without you; And to our sponsors, partners and customers who will line up with us before dawn has even considered breaking Sunday, we are grateful beyond words.
Stay tuned. Next week we will have a gallery of pics of our lycra-clad heroes and many tales of the trials, tribulations and triumphs they shared. It's not too late to contribute, visit our fundraising page here.
