NEXTDC is proud to announce its foundational role and membership of Data Centres Australia (DCA), the new peak body established to unite and advance the country’s rapidly expanding data centre and AI infrastructure sector.
The organisation was formalised on 28 November 2025, marking a major milestone in how Australia coordinates the future of its digital economy.
As a founding member, NEXTDC is helping shape a sector-wide platform designed to accelerate national readiness, strengthen sovereign capability, and ensure Australia remains a world-class destination for AI and digital infrastructure investment.
In response to this announcement, NEXTDC CEO Craig Scroggie captured the moment with a clear message about the responsibility and opportunity ahead:
“Data centres aren’t just sheds full of servers anymore. They’re the beating heart of the digital economy. If you think about what’s happening with AI, sovereign capability, and the sheer scale of digital infrastructure Australia will need over the next decade, it becomes clear that we’re at an inflection point.
“The DCA has an enormous role to play in shaping that future. This is about ensuring that Australia doesn’t just consume global technology trends but helps lead them. And that means certainty: in power, in planning, in policy, and in investment. We’re building infrastructure that lasts for generations, and the decisions we make today will determine the opportunities Australia has tomorrow.”
A new chapter for Australia’s digital ecosystem
Data Centres Australia evolves from the successful two-year industry alliance that delivered the 2024 Mandala Report: Empowering Australia’s Digital Future.
Now, as a formal not-for-profit peak body, DCA brings together policy makers, developers, operators, technology providers, utilities, and partners under a single, collaborative and coordinated agenda.
Its mission is centred on four pillars critical to the nation’s digital future:
Together, these pillars reflect a shared commitment to strengthening Australia’s digital foundations, accelerating investment, and ensuring infrastructure growth aligned with sustainability, security, and national economic ambition.
A unified platform for national digital ambition
DCA’s founding members represent the breadth of the sector. This includes hyperscale operators, global technology firms, utilities, and Australia’s leading colocation providers.
DCA’s mission is to establish a unified voice to address challenges such as:
For industry and government alike, DCA represents a pivotal step toward greater alignment, coordination, and long-term strategic clarity.
