Leadership and Board

Mr Craig Scroggie is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of NEXTDC, Australia’s leading Data- Centre-as-a-Service provider. Prior to becoming the CEO in June 2012, Mr Scroggie served on the Board of Directors since IPO (2010) as a Non-Executive Director, including as Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Mr Scroggie has more than 30 years’ experience in the ICT industry, having held senior positions with Symantec, Veritas Software, Computer Associates, EMC Corporation and Fujitsu. Prior to joining NEXTDC, Mr Scroggie was Symantec’s Vice President & Managing Director for the Pacific Region. 

Mr Scroggie currently serves on the Board of Freelancer (ASX:FLN) and also serves on the University of Southern Queensland Business School Advisory Board and is Chairman of the La Trobe University Business School Advisory Board and holds the position of Adjunct Professor. Mr Scroggie is a Graduate of the University of Southern Queensland and holds an Advanced Certificate in in Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, a Master of Business Administration; and is a Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

In 2013 Mr Scroggie was awarded the University of Southern Queensland Faculty of Business & Law Alumnus of the Year and in 2015 was inducted into the ARN ICT Industry Awards Hall of Fame. 

Simon is the Group Chief Development Officer at NEXTDC and has been part of the executive leadership for 15 years. His current portfolio includes leading the company’s strategic direction and execution of data centre location, design, development, construction, and delivery to customers – now driving over $2b per annum capital commitments and overseeing the continued expansion of NEXTDC’s national and international data centre platform in support of the company’s emergence as an ASX100 public company.

Before migrating to Australia with his family to join NEXTDC, Simon was based in Singapore for 6 years, where he directed Tata Communications investments in their global fibre optic sub-sea network expansion.

Simon holds an Electronic and Electrical Engineering Degree from Nottingham University and began his career as a Telecommunications Systems Engineer in the UK, working directly on a number of submarine and terrestrial international cable projects with Cable & Wireless and Level 3 Communications.

Oskar is responsible for driving the Finance and Business Operating functions at NEXTDC, including financial reporting, budgeting, investment review and group funding as well as investor relations.

As a highly respected member of the global finance industry, Oskar brings 15 years of investment banking and corporate advisory experience in Australia and the United Kingdom. Oskar is highly regarded for his extensive experience in debt and equity capital raising, M&A and strategic business planning having successfully completed transactions across a range of industries, including Technology, Media and Telecommunications.

Prior to joining NEXTDC, Oskar held senior positions at a number of global investment banks including Lazard, UBS and Robert Baird and Co. in the United Kingdom.

Oskar holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business degree with Distinction from the University of Otago in New Zealand.

David is a highly accomplished executive with a distinguished career spanning Australia and the Asia Pacific region. With extensive experience in the technology industry, including Cloud computing, data centers, and colocation, David brings a wealth of knowledge in driving successful market entry, services management, and Cloud services.

As Chief Customer and Commercial Officer (CCO) at NEXTDC, David assumes full global responsibility for the company's go-to-market (GTM) and customer engine. He leads a talented team across Sales, Marketing, Customer Service/Success and Regional Management, Vendor Management overseeing operations in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. David's strategic direction guides NEXTDC's revenue generation efforts and ensures an exceptional end-to-end customer experience throughout the entire lifecycle.

Under David's leadership, NEXTDC has gained a reputation for providing best-in-class quality and exemplary service to organizations. Embracing a customer-first approach, David works closely with key customers and verticals, leveraging his comprehensive understanding of their needs and the industry. This enables him to align corporate and customer strategies effectively, supporting long-term cloud and transformation goals while helping customers achieve their desired outcomes.

Central to David's focus is fostering a unified voice of the customer within the organization. By deepening customer engagement and cultivating strong partner relationships, he strengthens NEXTDC's position as a trusted and strategic partner for businesses.

Prior to joining NEXTDC, David held the position of Vice President and General Manager at Parallels, a virtualization and cloud automation technology company, based in Hong Kong. Earlier in his career, he played a pivotal role at Symantec, where he drove remarkable growth and success for the business. David was instrumental in establishing Symantec as a leading provider of security and storage solutions in the ANZ region, holding various senior positions, including Vice President of Sales (Channel/SMB/GSP) in APJ and Senior Director of Enterprise Sales and Partners in APAC.

With his extensive expertise and global perspective, David continues to shape NEXTDC's success, furthering its position as an industry leader and driving innovation in the technology landscape.

Ellie is responsible for driving the Company’s human capital strategy to support the attraction, engagement, growth and development of NEXTDC’s talent.

To ensure the NEXTDC team lives the company values and continues to deliver on our objective to have the right people and capabilities to deliver on the ambitious goals we set ourselves, Ellie’s role encompasses all facets of People & Culture including recruitment, employee engagement, talent management, organisational change and development, reward and recognition.

Ellie is passionate about empowering leaders and elevating the leadership capabilities that drive the Company’s high-performance culture which is underpinned by strong company values.

Ellie’s extensive background in Human Resources and expertise in Organisational Change Management fuels her dedication to effectively lead people through times of change so they are well positioned to adapt and succeed.

Ellie is recognised in the ICT industry as a HR Rising Star and was a finalist in the ARN Women in ICT awards.

Ellie holds a Bachelor of Business (Human Resources) and a Bachelor of Journalism and is an accredited Prosci Organisational Change Manager.

Adam Scully is Vice President for the Customer and Commercial organisation. Working closely with the Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Adam spearheads NEXTDC’s customer retention strategy and delivers the commercial excellence needed to support NEXTDC's rich customer and partner ecosystem.

Customer first is one of NEXTDC’s core company values and Adam draws on his 30 years of experience in various senior sales leadership positions to ensure NEXTDC delivers an exceptional experience and best-in-value services to our channel partners and customers.

Adam has a strong background in the technology industry, with experience spanning more than 15 years within leading companies such as Symantec and IBM. Prior to entering the ICT industry Adam spent 16 years in the commercial real estate and construction industry. When teamed with NEXTDC’s world-class solutions, Adam is uniquely positioned to help our customer and partner community to build holistic enterprise-grade solutions that solve complex organisational challenges.

Adam holds a Master of Management degree from the University of Wollongong and is appointed an Advisory Board member for DataCenter Dynamics.

Mr Michael Helmer has over 30 years' experience in the legal sector and has previously served as Director of Legal Services (Asia Pacific) for global software maker Symantec. Before that, Michael was based in London at specialist technology firm Field Fisher Waterhouse. Michael has held senior legal roles in Barclays, Coles Myer and was General Counsel at European online shopping site shopsmart.com as well as Australian anti-malware maker PC Tools.

Michael is a seasoned strategic advisor with deep knowledge of the legal and compliance environments in which technology and ecommerce businesses operate. His work is particularly focussed on their corporate and operating environments, ecommerce, security and compliance requirements as well as technology and IP law, M&A and capital raising.

Michael has obtained a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Science (Monash) and is admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia as well as in England and Wales. Michael is a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and has served as their Victorian President (ACLA) as well as a member of its National Board. Michael holds a Certificate in Governance Practice and is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia (FGIA). He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a graduate of their Company Directors course (GAICD).

Jeff holds a pivotal position within NEXTDC, where he bears responsibility for an array of critical functions related to the company's technology portfolio and digital strategy. Jeff's role ensures that NEXTDC's technology and digital endeavours not only operate efficiently but also uphold the highest standards of security and align seamlessly with the company's overarching strategic objectives and customer expectations.

Physical & Digital Experiences:

Jeff is charged with enriching both physical and digital experiences for NEXTDC's stakeholders, including staff, customers, and partners. His goal is to create inclusive environments that nurture collaboration, teamwork, and operational efficiency.

Technical Operations Leadership:

Jeff's leadership extends to the realm of technical operations, where he plays a vital role in helping to deliver on NEXTDC's brand promise – 100% Uptime Guarantee. These operations revolve around effective service management and are closely aligned with NEXTDC's ONETEAM value. Jeff collaborates closely with passionate and dedicated teams and partners to deliver exceptional service quality.

Technology Solutions:

Jeff's teams are responsible for delivering on-property and enterprise solutions by integrating an array of technologies. Their work is pivotal in optimising platforms and data utilisation, thereby benefiting both customers and the core business functions of NEXTDC.

Cybersecurity and Information Security Oversight:

Jeff also leads NEXTDC's cybersecurity and information security practice. His accountability extends to developing and implementing practical strategies that not only uphold NEXTDC's brand promise but also mitigate security risks for customers. These strategies adhere to market and industry standards while ensuring compliance with government and regulatory requirements.

Beyond his primary responsibilities, Jeff oversees the lifecycle and governance of business-led initiatives at NEXTDC. This encompasses aligning these initiatives with the company's strategic and investment priorities, overseeing program delivery, and championing effective change management and adoption.

Jeffrey is responsible for the design, performance, and energy-efficiency of NEXTDC’s world-leading data centres. As the leader of NEXTDC’s Engineering and Design team and innovation engine, Jeff’s direction has positioned NEXTDC as the first data centre provider in Australia to build a national network of Tier III and Tier IV Certified facilities for both Design and Construction, the platform upon which NEXTDC became the first data centre operator in the Southern Hemisphere to achieve Tier IV Gold Certification for Operational Sustainability – the highest level of independent reliability certification that can be achieved globally. Jeffrey’s commissioning and energy tuning leadership also enabled NEXTDC to become Australia’s first and only NABERS 5-star data centre infrastructure energy efficiency certified operator.

A well-respected leader by the global Engineering community, Jeffrey was acknowledged by peak engineering industry group, Engineers Australia in 2018, as one of the country’s top 30 most innovative engineers having led NEXTDC’s world leading design.

Prior to joining NEXTDC, Jeffrey was based in Singapore for 10 years which included a tenure as the Asia Pacific Technical Director for a leading high-performance global buildings technology company introducing innovative patented energy saving technology throughout Asia Pacific. While based in Singapore, he was also the company’s lead for a number of successful energy-efficient, high tech mega projects across Asia Pacific, such as the multi-billion dollar Marina Bay Sands. Jeffrey also had a tenure of 2 years in California, USA, working on research and development of new patented technologies.

Jeffrey has extensive experience in design, on-site commissioning and troubleshooting data centre and other major projects throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Jeffrey has been awarded an Australian Innovation Patent for an energy saving solution for data centre design which is the basis of his current research-based PhD candidature. He holds an Honours Degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, is an Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer, a Chartered Professional Engineer, Registered Member of Engineers Australia and RPEQ. Jeffrey has received industry accolades by global industry experts Datacenter Dynamics and Uptime Institute. Jeffrey’s expertise led the NEXTDC Engineering and Design team to win the 2014 Data Centre Dynamics APAC award for innovation of the mega data centre awarded in Singapore, The 2018 Datacenter Dynamics Global award for the Design Team of the Year awarded in London and the 2015 Uptime Institute Brill award for efficient IT awarded in Silicon Valley, USA.

Olivia is responsible for leading the company’s strategic planning and execution framework.

Olivia brings extensive experience running the Executive office at NEXTDC for seven years, prior to her role as Chief of Staff. She is well respected for her ability to build and lead teams, enhancing the skills and expertise of staff.

Olivia is known for her passion and precision in leading the synchronisation of the leadership group and her ability to promote cross functional collaboration across the organisation, in order to support continued growth and excellence company wide.

Olivia is a project management professional who specialises in the Prosci Change Management methodology. Olivia’s expertise helps facilitate organisational transition and assists the people side of change, ensuring the NEXTDC team understand, accept, embrace and commit to changes within the organisation as it continues its growth trajectory.

Prior to joining NEXTDC, Olivia worked for the Queensland State Government running HR & Executive office related roles.

Mr Douglas (Doug) Flynn was appointed to the Board in September 2013 as an Independent Non-Executive Director and subsequently was appointed as Chairman in April 2014.

Doug has over 30 years of international experience in the media and information and communication technology industries, including holding various senior management and board positions. He has had extensive experience in building international networked businesses including currently in East Asia and elsewhere. 

Doug is the current Chairman of IMEXHS Limited, a Latin America based medical imaging technology provider. 
Previously, Doug was the Chief Executive of newspaper publisher, Davies Brothers Limited, which was acquired by News Corporation in 1989. In 1995, he was appointed the Managing Director of News International Plc. 

After leaving News International in 1998, Doug joined Aegis Group Plc and was appointed as the CEO in 1999, where he was instrumental in doubling the size of the company and established global market research business Synovate and internet services business Isobar. 

From 2005 to 2008, Doug served as the Chief Executive of facilities management provider Rentokil Initial Plc. 
Doug has a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, University of Newcastle (NSW) and received a Master of Business Administration (with distinction), University of Melbourne. 

Mrs Page is an experienced chair and company director with broad industry experience spanning various ASX-listed, private, public sector and regulated entities including in the property, funds management, utilities, renewables, technology and insurance sectors. She is a Chartered Accountant with dual audit partner and CFO experience during her executive career, and she brings extensive governance, Board and Audit Committee Chair experience, as well as a strong background in corporate finance, accounting, audit, mergers and acquisition, capital markets, insurance and joint venture arrangements.

She has been a professional director since 2001 and holds a degree in Economics from the University of Sydney and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants ANZ and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is also a Member of the Takeovers Panel and Chief Executive Women. In 2006 she received an Order of Australia for services to public health, business and the accounting profession.

Mr Jamaludin has over 40 years of executive experience in the IT and telecommunications sectors, including 27 years as a CEO. Since retiring from executive roles in 2020, he has remained engaged in various industries, including technology, fast food, aviation, and transportation, through multiple non-executive roles. He has served extensively on corporate boards in Malaysia and internationally, including public-listed companies, private enterprises, and government-linked bodies.

Mr Jamaludin holds an MBA from Portland State University (US) specialising in Operations Research & Quantitative Methods. He also holds a BSc, Business Administration, with a minor in Mathematics from California State University, Chico.

He is currently the Chairman of QSR Brands (Fast Food, ASEAN), Chairman of AirAsia Group Bhd, and a Board Member of SEEK Ltd (Australia) and the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM). Mr Jamaludin was previously Chairman of government-owned Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia's public transport owner and operator, and a non-executive director of publicly listed Sunway Berhad. Mr Jamaludin has served the Malaysian government in various roles, including being appointed in 2020 by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia as a member of the Economic Action Council and of the Digital Economy Council. He has been a contributor to numerous national initiatives and policy task forces. In addition, he currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Mr Jamaludin's commercial experience includes being the Group CEO, Axiata Group (2008–2020), the CEO of Maxis Communications (1998–2007), the Managing Director, DEC Malaysia (1993–1997) and having acted in a variety of roles at IBM Malaysia (1981–1993) including in systems engineering, sales, and management. He began his career as a Lecturer at California State University, Chico (1980).

Mr Jamaludin's services to industry have been recognised both in Malaysia and abroad, having received the GSMA (Global Telecom Associations) Chairman's Award (2015) and receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia (2024).

Dr Eileen Doyle has had an internationally recognised career with close to four decades of diverse business experience at both executive and board level.

Her experience covers a wide range of industries including logistics, technology and research, property, financial services, manufacturing, building and construction and sport.

Dr Doyle has previously served as the Chairman of the world's largest export coal loader, PWCS (1998-2009) and Deputy Chairman of CSIRO to 2016, after 10 years of service.

Dr Doyle currently serves on the Board of DBI Limited, SWOOP Analytics and the Hunter Angels Trust. She has significant experience on listed and private boards as well as across Audit, Remuneration and Sustainability Committees. Dr Doyle's experience also includes appointments at major government bodies Austrade, CSIRO, Newcastle Port Corporation and AirServices Australia.

Dr Doyle holds a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of Newcastle, was a Fulbright Scholar (Business Management: Columbia University), is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE) and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).

Dr Doyle is also a Foundation Fellow of The Australian Association of Angel Investors (FAAAI) and the author of "Call a Business Angel" and "Start-Up Investing – Success, Stamina and Serendipity".

Mr Stuart Davis has over 30 years' experience as an international banker with the HSBC Group including roles in Hong Kong, New York, Taiwan, India and Australia. Most recently he was CEO for HSBC India (2009-2012), CEO and Executive Director for HSBC Bank Australia Limited (2002-2009) and CEO HSBC Taiwan (1999-2002). He was a member of the Australian Bankers Association from 2002 to 2009 and Deputy Chairman from 2006 to 2009.

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), University of Adelaide and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Mr Stephen (Steve) Smith is widely respected amongst the global ICT community. Steve has a deep background and expertise in managing market leading technology businesses, particularly in the data centre industry.

Steve served as CEO and President of Equinix Inc for over a decade (2007-2018), transforming it into the largest enterprise data centre platform in the world. Under Steve's leadership Equinix grew from 17 data centres operating in 10 markets and a US$2 billion market cap, to approximately 200 data centres with a US$34 billion market cap and operations in 24 countries on five continents.

Steve is currently the CEO of Zayo Group, a leading provider of fibre infrastructure, with dense, high-quality networks in every major market in North America and many in Western Europe. Prior to his time at Zayo Group and Equinix, Steve held senior leadership positions at Hewlett Packard (2005-2006) which included serving as its Senior Vice President – Worldwide HP Services; Lucent Technologies Inc. (2004-2005), where he was appointed as Vice President, Global Professional and Managed Services and Electronic Data Systems Corporation (EDS) (1987-2004), where he served in a number of capacities including Chief Sales Officer and President, Asia-Pacific.

Steve also had a successful eight-year career in the U.S. Army where, among other roles, he was aide de-camp to the office of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces in the Pacific.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Ms Maria Leftakis has an entrepreneurial background with more than 30 years' experience in corporate governance and shareholder engagement in Australia and overseas, specialising in the strategic advice and execution of mergers and acquisitions, cross-border deals, contests, proxy fights and other extraordinary transactions. She has also advised many ASX100 boards on a range of sensitive governance matters including activism and investor dissent.

Maria is recognised as pioneering shareholder proxy solicitation and research in Australia and creating and innovating the architecture and technology now adopted across the market.

Previously, as Chair for Morrow Sodali APAC, Maria provided counsel and mentoring to the regional leadership team. Maria also led the Morrow Sodali APAC Advisory Board that provided guidance and support for the company's expansion and growth into Asian markets.

In her previous role as the CEO of Morrow Sodali APAC, Maria advised on many of Australia's largest and most complex transactions. Under her leadership, Morrow Sodali set itself apart in the Australian market with an unrivalled integrated service offering and the deepest track record of success for many of the country's largest organisations.

Maria holds a Bachelor of Economics (Finance and Accounting) from the University of Sydney as well as an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales. Maria is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
