A cross connect is a dedicated, point-to-point connection that links two parties within a data centre. It allows customers to connect their infrastructure and applications with other providers in the same ecosystem. Cross connects typically use fiber-optic cabling and can be ordered in various bandwidth capacities.
Cross connects offers the most secure, reliable, and efficient way to connect with other providers in the data centre. They allow for high performance systems integration and data exchange, making it easier for customers to transfer large amounts of data quickly and securely. Cross connects also offer lower latency and higher throughput than traditional internet connections.
You can establish connections with various types of providers such as network service providers, cloud service providers, content delivery networks, Intra-government Communications Networks (ICON) and applications providers. Opting for a neutral data centre give you the freedom to connect to any available provider in the data centre, thus enabling you to have greater flexibility and control over your network connectivity.
Provisioning a Cross Connect is simple, enabling fast access to the clouds, carrier networks and ICT services providers needed. Cross Connects can be ordered at any time via your ONEDC portal, which our technicians will process and turn around quickly.
Built with single mode optical fibre (SMOF) and Cat 6 Ethernet, all Cross Connects are established by NEXTDC facility staff in our dedicated interconnect rooms. Our optical Cross Connects are either rack-to-carrier or rack-to-rack, and can be single or dual core.
Once the cross connect is provisioned, it becomes the customer's responsibility to manage and maintain it. This includes monitoring the connection for any issues, troubleshooting connectivity problems, and coordinating with the NEXTDC for any required maintenance or upgrades. Customers can also order additional cross connects or adjust the bandwidth capacity as needed to accommodate changing business needs.
