Balmain, the region’s leading non-bank commercial loan manager, recently selected NEXTDC’s S1 Sydney data centre to host cloud services and some production, client-facing systems in a deal arranged through their relationship with Telstra – a NEXTDC premier partner.

Vik Sharma, the Head of Information Technology at Balmain, has been steering the company through a period of IT transformation. “Balmain as an organisation is requiring increasingly more from our IT service, and we’ve been developing new strategies to overcome our storage and scalability issues. We want to free-up our internal IT resources in order to concentrate on business productivity and innovation.”

Commenting on why they selected NEXTDC, Vik said, “[it was] due to the redundancy and high availability of the data centre, which would otherwise cost Balmain a lot of money, time and effort to implement and maintain.”

Balmain uses Microsoft Azure as one of their key cloud services for hosting, building and deploying client-facing applications, and NEXTDC’s ability to provide private, high-speed connections to Microsoft Azure via ExpressRoute was an important factor in Balmain’s decision.

As to what’s in the future for Balmain, Vik reveals that, “Balmain’s IT development roadmap consists of more mobile and web-based applications for its staff and customers. With NEXTDC as our only data centre provider we will be able to leverage the capacity and scalability of these applications off-site and release the resources at HQ and branch offices to service mission critical business objectives.”
